Second medical relief convoy arrives in South Sudan: Egypt health ministry

Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar announced in a statement that a second Egyptian convoy arrived in South Sudan to provide medical services to the people of Bor town — the capital of Jonglei State — to help the country deal with the recent floods.

The convoy was dispatched in implementation of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to provide medical support to African countries, assisting them in times of crisis.

The minister added that the convoy was also sent as per South Sudan’s request for support in confronting the aftermath of recent rainfalls and floods that swept the country.

In December, Egypt sent a large shipment of humanitarian and medical aid to South Sudan.

The convoy comprises doctors and consultants in pediatrics, chest diseases, and fevers with the aim of providing medical support to brotherly South Sudan in the areas most affected by torrential rains and floods, Mohamed Gad, the deputy minister of health and population for external health relations affairs, explained.

The statement noted that Jonglei State’s minister of health and director of administrative affairs of the South Sudanese parliament had visited the first medical relief convoy, praising the high level of services.
