Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a decree on Tuesday appointing Rear Admiral Ashraf Ibrahim Atwa Megahed as the new Navy commander to replace Vice-Admiral Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said, a statement by the presidency said.
Born in 1961, Megahed held several positions, including chief of staff of the Navy, commander of the Southern Fleet, and commander of the Port Said and Red Sea naval bases.
Megahed graduated in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in naval studies and holds a master's degree in military studies.
He has been awarded several high-level national medals, including the Medal of Military Duty, the Medal of Long Service and Good Example, and the Medal of Distinguished Service. He was also awarded the Medal of 25 January and the Medal of 30 June, which are named after Egypt's most recent revolutions.
El-Sisi issued another decree appointing Said as commander of the strategic command, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in the statement.
Under the decree, Said was also named the supervisor of the military industrialization with a degree of deputy minister.
