Cairo Gov. receives Secretary-General of Arab Towns Organization

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber received Badr Wa'el Al-Ajeel Al-Askar, Secretary-General of the Arab Town Organization (ATO), in his office at the Cairo Governorate headquarters to discuss cooperation and the exchange of expertise between Cairo and the Arab member cities of the organization in local governance and sustainable urban development.

During the meeting, Governor Saber emphasized the governorate’s commitment to fostering cooperation between Cairo and specialized Arab organizations and bodies in urban development. He highlighted the importance of leveraging successful experiences in urban planning, digital transformation, and enhancing services provided to citizens. He also stated that Cairo is currently implementing numerous major development projects aimed at improving citizens' living standards and achieving sustainable development.

Saber further stated that the exchange of successful experiences and expertise among Arab cities contributes to addressing common challenges, particularly those related to urban management, transportation, preservation of architectural heritage, and adaptation to environmental changes. He emphasized Cairo governorate's willingness to cooperate with the organization on various initiatives and programs that promote local development.

On the other hand, the Secretary-General of the ATO praised the efforts made by the Egyptian government and the Cairo Governorate in implementing urban development projects and improving infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between Arab cities and exchanging successful experiences to contribute to achieving sustainable development goals and improving the efficiency of local administration.

The ATO is an independent, non-governmental regional organization of a service nature that does not aim for profit, specializing in the affairs of cities and municipalities in the Arab world. It was established on March 15, 1967, and its permanent headquarters is in Kuwait. 

Cairo is one of the founding and active member cities of the Arab Towns Organization, which was established with the aim of enhancing cooperation between Arab cities and municipalities and exchanging expertise in local governance, urban development, and municipal services. Cairo participated in the first founding general conference held in 1967 and has also hosted a number of the organization's executive councils.
