The Truth Behind the Rumor of Importing Carcinogenic Lentil Shipments

Reports have circulated on some websites and social media platforms claiming that carcinogenic lentil shipments have been imported and are being exchanges in the markets. The Media Center of the Cabinet contacted the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, which categorically denied these claims.

The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that no carcinogenic lentil shipments have been imported, and that the lentils available in the market are safe, healthy, and compliant with all standard specifications. It noted that all imported agricultural crops are subject to strict inspection and monitoring by the Ministries of Agriculture and Health, the General Organization for Export and Import Control, as well as the Food Safety Authority. The ministry emphasized its full commitment to protecting citizens’ health and ensuring the safety of agricultural products.

The ministry also affirmed that there is continuous and periodic monitoring of both exports and imports—whether by the government or private sector companies—using the latest scientific methods and equipment. This ensures compliance with international standards and established procedures for all products, whether exported or imported. It further stressed that all imports undergo rigorous testing and thorough inspection to verify their quality, safety, and compliance with agreed specifications.

Finally, the ministry urged all media outlets and citizens to ensure accuracy and objectivity when sharing news, and to verify information with the relevant authorities before publishing unsubstantiated claims that may cause unnecessary concern or panic. In case of any complaints, citizens are encouraged to report them via the ministry’s hotline (16894).
