Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal and Mayor of Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Benjamina Karić, signed Sunday an agreement of friendship and cooperation between the two cities.
The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Governors, Secretary-General Hazem Al-Ashmony, Egyptian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Yasser Sorour, Acting Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina Armin Limo, Head of Mayor’s Expert Service Aida Bajramović, Head of Cairo’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Agency Romeh Hassib, and Head of the Agency of Graduates Employment Dr. Rania Hasan.
During the ceremony, Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal asserted that the agreement aims to strengthen ties of friendship and relations between Cairo and Sarajevo in various fields such as culture, science, arts, education, health, tourism, sports, environment, and trade by exchanging expertise and sharing researches.
Abdel Aal said that the signing of the brotherhood agreement reflects the deep relations between the cities and their keenness to boost cooperation, adding that the delegation would see the development Cairo has witnessed over the past ten years in line with Egypt Vision 2030 and under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi targeting to improve the living conditions of citizens.
During the meeting, Abdel Aal reviewed achievements realized in Egypt, including eradicating informal settlements and turning them into modern urban communities, developing historic areas in Cairo, establishing the largest network of road axes to overcome traffic congestion in the capital leading to better services, renovating tourist destination like Magra El-Oyoun Fence and the Fustat Hills.
Moreover, Abdel Aal said that Cairo is an open museum housing a unique combination of diverse cultures and civilizations, and it is also home to many races that formed its distinctive culture throughout the ages.
Abdel Aal furthermore pointed out that Cairo launched an initiative to revive traditional crafts heritage and provided full support through training and funding to preserve such crafts.
For her part, Benjamina Karić, Mayor of Sarajevo, thanked Egypt for supporting her country through difficult circumstances, asserting the long cultural history between the two cities.
Karić also said the agreement is a step towards boosting cooperation between the two capitals.
Karić extended an official invitation to Governor Khaled Abdel Aal to visit Sarajevo to strengthen relations between Cairo and Sarajevo.
