Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal asserted Tuesday that the state pays great importance to heritage preservation that reflects true identity and is a tool to preserve its historical and leading position.
Abdel Aal added that the project of reviving and preserving traditional crafts and handicrafts in Historic Cairo, which is a collaborative effort between the Cairo governorate, the Agha Khan Foundation for Cultural Services in Egypt, the Egyptian Society for Folk Traditions, and Mazalla Foundation for Social Development received full attention from the state and regional and international organization, given its significant role in reviving Egypt’s traditional crafts.
Abdel Aal, furthermore, pointed out that the governorate fully supports all events and activities aiming to preserve the Egyptian heritage.
Abdel Aal also said that the Agha Khan Foundation in Egypt holds two permanent exhibitions in the Azhar park and a weekly one after the Gomaa prayer to help artisans market and export their products as well as participating in local and international fairs like Dubai and Shanghai traditional crafts fairs.
Moreover, Abdel Aal said that a study is underway that the Agha Khan Foundation would provide ten locations for artisans to hold more exhibitions along the newly renovated road extending from Bab El-Wazir Street to Bab Zewila.
