Cairo Gov. stresses importance of Smart Green Projects Initiative

Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal announced Monday that launching the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in Egypt's governorates is part of the ongoing preparations for hosting COP27 in November in Sharm El-Sheikh under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Abdel Aal pointed out that the initiative aims to introduce an unprecedented global initiative focusing on implementation on the ground and reflect the seriousness of dealing with the environmental dimension and climate change within the framework of achieving sustainable development and digital transformation strategy through implementing national projects. It also will chart a map for each governorate's smart green projects to connect them with funding agencies and attract necessary local and foreign investments.

Moreover, The initiative is part of achieving Egypt’s goals of tackling climate change and environmental challenges by implementing relevant projects on the ground, maximizing the use of information technology and communication within the framework of the state’s digital transformation plan, enabling Egypt’s governorates, spreading awareness about climate change challenges and modern technologies, empowering women in the fields of climate change, and merging all segments of society in finding solutions for climate change and environment challenges.

The Smart Green Projects Initiative, which opened its registration door on the initiative’s website from August 21 to September 7, 2022, comes in line with Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli’s instructions to launch a national initiative for smart green projects nationwide ahead of Egypt’s hosting of COP27. The initiative is under the supervision of Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Hala El-Saeed and headed by the UN climate change high-level champion for Egypt and the Head of the Jury of the Smart Green Projects Initiative Mahmoud Mohi El-Din and the General Coordinator of the initiative Hisham Badr.
