During his tour, Shaarawi called on citizens not to pay extra fares and report any violations from drivers.
Moreover, Shaarawi directed executives of Egypt’s governorates to continuously follow up on the situation at all the public transport stations across the country to ensure the drivers’ commitment to the new fares.
For his part, Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal assured that all public transport terminals across Cairo are committed to the new fares, noting that the central operations room at the Cairo governorate did not receive complaints about any violations.
Abdel Aal also instructed the district’s chiefs to coordinate with the Cairo Traffic Authority to conduct inspection tours of public transport terminals and gas stations to ensure commitment to the new fares and that the signboard of the new prices is placed at every station.
Abdel Aal added that the two hot lines 114 and 15469 are allocated to receive citizen complaints 24 hours a day.
Then, Shaarawi and Abdel Aal headed to the Abdel Moneim Riyad Bus Station, where they talked to several drivers to urge them to adhere to the new fares.
Shaarawi also urged to place signboards and banners, including the new prices, at the entrance to the station and tighten control on drivers’ commitment to bus routes and new fares.
Furthermore, Shaarawi said that any driver who violates the new fares would face strict legal actions and stressed the importance of effective communication between the executives of local administration and citizens.
At the end of his tour, Shaarawi directed the waste management company responsible for removing garbage in Cairo’s west area to pay attention to the workers at the Abdel Moneim Riyad Station and review the cleanliness in the area’s districts.
