Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal stressed Monday the importance of domestic tourism in the capital, especially with the country's various and unique tourist attractions.
The governor's remarks came during the tour organized by the Cairo governorate for more than 50 outstanding school students of the capital's famous attractions on World Tourism Day.
The tour included the Egyptian Museum, Salah EL-Din Citadel, the Hanging Church, and the Baron Palace.
Abdel Aal urged to increase school trips to Cairo's landmarks and attractions, asserting that the governorate would provide full support to promote such trips and activities to raise awareness about tourism and patriotism among Egypt's youth and know about the history of their country.
This year World Tourism Organization is celebrating World Tourism Day under the slogan "Tourism for Inclusive Growth", aiming to raise awareness of tourism's importance and effects.
World Tourism Day has been held on September 27 each year since 1980. The date marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Statutes of the Organization in 1970, paving the way for the establishment of UNWTO five years later.
