Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal stressed Wednesday the importance of preserving the alternative housing projects for slums’ residents that the state is constructing to provide them with decent homes.
This came during the meeting held by the Cairo governorate with heads of alternative housing projects and the General Supervisor of upgrading informal areas to follow up on the status of several social housing projects like Al-Asmarat 1,2,3, Ahalina 1,2, El-Mahrousa 1,2, Rawdet El-Sayeda, and El-Khayala.
Abdel Aal added that they are considering establishing a general department that supervises and follows up the ongoing housing projects and a fund to collect the revenues of these projects and reuse them to improve the quality of services provided to residents.
During the meeting, Abdel Aal decided to terminate the contract with the company responsible for the waste management services in the Ma’an housing project for neglecting its duties. He also ordered to increase Transport services serving the alternative housing projects urging Cairo’s Cleaning Authority to increase green spaces in these areas.
Moreover, Abdel Aal asserted the importance of the role of civil society in improving social activities to help the residents of those housing projects, stressing the necessity of the cooperation between civil society and NGOs to contribute to the sustainable development of the projects.
