Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal asserted during the second session of the executive meeting of the African United Cities and Local Government Organization that Cairo would provide all support and expertise to all of the African cities to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, Abdel Aal also suggested organizing a joint meeting via video conference between African cities to discuss and exchange expertise on how to handle the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects.
Moreover, the governor confirmed that the Cairo governorate was keen to host the headquarter of the organization's North countries and preparations were completed to sign the headquarters agreement in March 2020, but the spread of Covid_19 prevented it. He also said that officials of the organization were invited to visit Cairo next February to sign the agreement and launch its activities.
Abdel Aal also assured that Cairo seeks to create an international partnership to support the headquarters' activities to serve the African organization's goals as well as support the role of African women regionally and internationally.
Furthermore, the governor pointed out that Egypt is one of the leading countries that supports women adding that Egypt has always been keen to support its brothers in all fields, especially within the framework of the announcement to host the second conference of African cities driving sustainable development in its second edition.
He added that the Cairo governorate is working with the Secretary-General of the African Local Cities Organization to organize a meeting about solid waste, which is a big challenge facing African cities assuring Cairo's commitment to joint African work.
