The 11th International Conference of Egypt’s Dar al-Ifta and the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide launched Tuesday, September 1, in Cairo. The two-day event is held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with high-level participation from muftis, ministers, scholars, and representatives of 80 countries.
The conference, titled “Family Challenges Amid Major Transformations: A Fatwa Approach to Protecting Families, Envisioning Their Future, and Preserving Identity," will explore seven key themes: Grounding family life in maqasid al-sharia, developing contemporary Sharia authority, digital and technological transformations and their effect on families, globalization of values and ideological currents challenging family identity, public policies supporting family cohesion, economic and social challenges affecting family stability, value and psychological shifts in the digital era, and future visions and exploring prospects for family protection.
The agenda includes six specialized scientific sessions discussing selected research papers, plus four workshops organized by Dar al-Ifta’s sectors, including the Salam Center, the Global Fatwa Index, the Dialogue Unit, and training and e-learning centers.
The conference acts as a strategic platform uniting religious and social expertise to launch practical initiatives and fatwa-based approaches that strengthen family stability, prepare youth, and preserve identity and moral values against contemporary challenges.
Organizers continue to welcome official delegations, religious leaders, and intellectuals as the sessions unfold, tackling one of the most pressing issues in today’s social reality.
The conference’s ultimate goal is to confront digital, intellectual, and economic challenges impacting families while empowering religious and community institutions to build conscious individuals and stable households. The approach balances adapting to technological change, diagnosing risks, and formulating realistic solutions to preserve family stability and identity.
