Cairo Governor, Educational Buildings Authority Chairman discuss expanding school numbers

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber held a meeting attended by the Assistant Minister of Education and Technical Education for Educational Buildings Affairs and chairman of the General Authority for Educational Buildings, Yousry Abdullah Salem, to discuss coordination among the Cairo Governorate, the General Authority for Educational Buildings, and Cairo’s Education Directorate to allocate eligible land sites for the construction of new schools and expand the number of public, experimental, and Japanese schools across the capital's neighborhoods. The meeting also addressed the elimination of double shifts in all schools across Cairo to improve the quality of education.

The meeting was attended by deputy governors Ashraf Mansour, Mona El-Batrawi, Dr. Ahmad Anwar El-Adl, and Omar El-Shafaei, along with the director of the Education Directorate, Dr. Hemmat Abu Keila, and several senior officials from the Cairo Governorate.

Moreover, the meeting addressed identifying the most neighborhoods in need of new school buildings, and allocating eligible land sites for constructing new schools across Cairo in line with the specific needs and student population density in each district. These efforts aim to expand school capacity, address overcrowded classrooms, and provide school buildings close to students' residences.

The meeting further touched upon expanding the number of Japanese schools, in line with the state's commitment to promoting this educational model and extending its benefits to a broader segment of students.

Governor Saber also stated during the meeting that the political leadership places great importance on expanding Japanese schools and Japanese-style education. It also supports the expansion of public and experimental schools in response to citizens' needs and the growing number of students. He also directed a prompt survey of available sites and an assessment of their eligibility for school construction, with priority given to neighborhoods experiencing high student density levels.

The meeting also reviewed the status of existing schools and their infrastructure needs. In this regard, Saber instructed the appropriate authorities to coordinate efforts to expedite the provision of essential utilities and services to schools while removing any obstacles that could disrupt the smooth operation of the education system.

Saber further said the governorate would continue coordination with the General Authority for Educational Buildings and the Education Directorate to develop a clear plan for expanding school construction once the assessment of land suitable for school development has been completed. The plan aims to increase school capacity and provide additional educational facilities for the residents of Cairo.
