Cairo Governor orders intensifying inspection campaigns on commodities

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber urged the executive bodies to continue intensifying oversight of all commodities, tighten market control, and intensify inspection campaigns in coordination with the Directorate of Supply, the Supply Investigations Department, the Veterinary and Health Directorates, food inspectors, the Public Facilities Police, and district chiefs to safeguard public health for citizens.

In this context, Abdel Baset Abdel Naeem, Director of Cairo’s Supply Directorate, stated that the directorate’s regulatory bodies conducted several campaigns last month. These campaigns resulted in the seizure of unregistered goods, overpriced goods, and uncertified products. The confiscated goods included 7 tons of poultry, 45 tons of meat, 8 tons of flour, 5 tons of sugar, 120 kg of tahini, 2 tons of pasta, 4,000 liters of cooking oil, 1,246 cans of tuna, 149 kg of fish, 331 kg of cheese, and 3,080 packs of tea.

Moreover, the regulatory bodies of the directorate also seized 13 butane gas cylinders that were being sold at prices above the official rate. Additionally, 570 violation reports were filed, and the necessary legal actions were taken against the violators, with cases referred to the competent prosecution authorities.
