The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade continues today, July 27, 2026, to distribute subsidized bread to ration card beneficiaries through 30,000 bakeries nationwide.
The Ministry is also allowing ration card holders and beneficiaries to receive three days’ worth of subsidized bread allocations in advance to facilitate the process for citizens.
Subsidized bread distribution continues according to the approved quotas, with each beneficiary receiving five loaves per ration card at a price of 20 piastres per loaf.
Starting Saturday, August 1, the Ministry will implement the new "Direct Deduction" system under the updated subsidized bread program, while continuing to provide bread to ration card beneficiaries according to their allocated quotas. The system is a financial arrangement between flour mills, bakeries, storage silos, and the General Authority for Supply Commodities, and does not involve citizens.
The General Division of Bakery Owners at the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce confirmed that the Direct Deduction system is a financial settlement mechanism. Under the system, flour mills pay the actual wheat cost to the General Authority for Supply Commodities. The price of wheat delivered to storage facilities and silos is EGP 16,500 per ton, while bakeries purchase flour at EGP 19,320 per ton. Bakery owners continue selling subsidized bread through ration cards at 20 piastres per loaf and receive the cost difference from the General Authority for Supply Commodities.
