Health Ministry launches awareness campaign to support recovering addicts

Ministry of Health and Population Saturday 3/1/2026 announced the launch of the anti-drug awareness campaign "Celebrate without it" for the eighth year in a row, coinciding with New Year celebrations.

The campaign aims to help recovered drug users avoid relapse by spending holidays away from behaviors or places associated with drugs, as part of broader efforts to support the sustainability of their recovery.

“The General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment (GSMHAT) organized a range of leisure, cultural, artistic, sports, and religious activities in a number of governorates,” said Ministry of Health and Population Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

He added that these activities included hosting recovering individuals for a full recreational day inside hospitals, within a safe environment that promotes positive recovery concepts.

He added that the campaign seeks to strengthen the spirit of participation and mutual support among recovering individuals.

The activities concluded with honoring several recovered drug users, in recognition of their commitment to treatment programs, in addition to honoring therapeutic teams, the spokesman said.

GSMHAT Head Ayman Abbas affirmed that the campaign provides a supportive atmosphere that enables recovering individuals to enjoy holidays without resorting to substance use, thereby enhancing their ability to cope with related pressures.
