President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday congratulated the Egypt national handball team on their victory in the 2026 African Men's Handball Championship in Rwanda, lifting the continental trophy for the fourth consecutive edition.
In a post on X, El-Sisi praised the team’s achievement as a reflection of determination and perseverance, saying it confirms Egypt’s standing among the leading nations in handball at both the African and global levels.
“I congratulate Egypt’s national handball team on their remarkable achievement of winning the African Handball Championship for the tenth time and for the fourth consecutive time,” the president said.
The accomplishment, El-Sisi said, “reflects a spirit of determination and perseverance and reaffirms Egypt’s place among the giants of the sport, both at the continental and global levels.”
Addressing the national handball team players, the president said “I am proud of you, and I pray that victories and achievements continue for Egyptian sport, bringing joy to our great people.”
Egypt clinched the title with a dominant 37-24 victory over Tunisia in the final of the 2026 African Men’s Handball Championship, held in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.
The Egyptians controlled proceedings throughout the match, leading 17-10 at halftime, drawing level with Tunisia as the most successful teams in the tournament’s history.
Alongside Egypt and Tunisia, Angola, Cape Verde and Algeria also qualified for the 2027 World Men's Handball Championship, which will be staged in Germany.
