Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Gambia’s President Adama Barrow discussed boosting private sector participation in initiatives that advance the two countries’ economic and trade relations.
In a phone call on Saturday, the two leaders held talks on bilateral ties as Egypt and Gambia mark 60 years of diplomatic relations this year.
They agreed to advance Egyptian-Gambian relations across various areas, with particular emphasis on economic, development, and educational cooperation.
The phone conversation discussed boosting bilateral trade and also expanding the presence of Egyptian companies in Gambia, particularly in the infrastructure and construction sectors.
Meanwhile, Barrow expressed appreciation for the level of the two countries’ cooperation in the health sector.
He praised the establishment of an Egyptian medical center in the Gambian capital, Banjul, and the support provided by Egypt in this domain.
The call also covered a range of regional issues, including developments in West Africa and the Sahel region.
El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for stability in the region, stressing the need for collective efforts to address challenges and resolve conflicts while respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to settle various regional crises and the two leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in counterterrorism efforts to contribute to regional security and stability.
