Thursday's forecast: heavy rain, strong winds, and continued instability

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has released its weather forecast for Thursday, highlighting a period of significant atmospheric instability affecting the country.

On Thursday, March 26, moderate rainfall is expected across scattered areas, including the northern coast, northern Lower Egypt, North Sinai, the Gulf of Suez, and the northern Red Sea Governorate. These showers may become heavy at times and are likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly along the northeastern coast.

The intensity of the rain is projected to gradually decrease throughout the day.

Light to moderate rain is also forecast for scattered regions of southern Lower Egypt, Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, central and southern Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt, with conditions expected to stabilize as the day progresses.

Active winds will prevail across most of the country, with speeds ranging between 30 and 50 km/h. This will sharpen the wind chill and may stir up sand and dust, potentially reducing horizontal visibility to less than 1,000 meters in parts of the Western Desert, southern Upper Egypt, and the Red Sea Governorate.

There is approximately a 30% probability that thunderstorms will be accompanied by localized gale-force winds caused by downdrafts from storm clouds.

The EMA also warned of potential lightning strikes, hail in certain areas, and snowfall in the Saint Catherine highlands. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and avoid standing under trees, billboards, or dilapidated structures during the peak of the instability.
