As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen social protection and promote family stability under the auspices of Egypt’s First Lady Entissar El Sisi , the Ministry of Social Solidarity has launched the “Joy of Egypt” initiative to support the marriage of young men and women from vulnerable groups.
The initiative provides essential furnishings required to equip a marital home, helping to ease financial burdens and ensure a dignified start to family life, said the Cabinet in a statement on Monday.
The initiative targets young people from vulnerable families, including beneficiaries of the “Solidarity and Dignity” cash support program, beneficiaries and graduates of care homes, individuals living with foster families, and persons with disabilities who are capable of forming a family. Applicants must have completed their marriage contract or at least half of the engagement ceremony within the past year.
The Ministry confirmed that several eligibility criteria have been established. The marriage must be the first for both parties, and neither applicant may have previously benefited from similar marriage initiatives or in-kind assistance provided by the Ministry or any other entity. Both individuals must also be Egyptian citizens who have reached the legal age for marriage.
Beyond financial assistance, the initiative emphasizes family preparedness and stability. Couples are required to participate in the “Mawadda” premarital preparation program, which provides psychological and social guidance to help them build healthy relationships and manage potential conflicts. Post-marital support and family counseling services are also available to ensure long-term stability.
To streamline and regulate the registration process, the Ministry has launched an electronic “Marriage Facilitation Platform.” Young couples preparing for marriage can register year-round via this.
Since its announcement, the initiative has witnessed significant engagement, with nearly 2,000 young men and women from underprivileged families registering on the platform, the Cabinet added.
