Egypt steps into autumn this week with a mix of hot days, foggy mornings, and cooler nights.
From Monday to Friday, Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, and northern Upper Egypt will see highs of 32–34 °C, while the northern coast stays milder at around 31 °C, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).
South Sinai and southern Upper Egypt will swelter at 38–40 °C.
Dense fog is expected every morning until 8am, making driving conditions on the highways leading into Cairo, Delta cities, and the northern coast difficult.
Humidity will push temperatures several degrees higher than the readings suggest. Nights, however, will dip into the low 20s, offering a brief respite.
Autumn in Egypt, which begins on 22 September and runs to 21 December, is famed for its sudden swings: desert heatwaves can give way overnight to northern chills.
It is also the start of the rainy season, with showers—sometimes fierce enough to spark floods in Sinai and the Red Sea mountains or unexpectedly transform into thunderstorms—forecast along the coast and Delta.
