Egypt’s FM holds trilateral meeting with Malian and Burkinabe counterparts

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, held a trilateral meeting with his counterparts from Mali and Burkina Faso, Abdoulaye Diop and Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, respectively.

The three ministers discussed regional issues of mutual concern and explored ways to enhance trilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of development, security, and investment.

Minister Abdelatty underscored the deep historical ties binding Egypt with Mali and Burkina Faso, reiterating Egypt’s commitment to strengthening those relationships across various fields to benefit the peoples of all three nations.

He highlighted the importance of expanding trade and promoting direct communication between business communities, in addition to encouraging Egyptian companies to invest in key sectors, such as infrastructure, energy, transportation, and healthcare.

Minister Abdelatty also pointed to the successful operations of several Egyptian companies in both the Malian and Burkinabe markets. He emphasized the need to follow up on the outcomes of previous business forums and official visits to West Africa, which included delegations of major Egyptian companies, investors, and private sector representatives.

On the security front, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Mali and Burkina Faso’s efforts in combating terrorism and promoting peace and stability. He noted the ongoing development of security and military cooperation, as well as capacity-building programs offered by Egyptian institutions to support national cadres in both countries.

He also highlighted initiatives led by the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding.

In addition, the Minister praised the role of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in fostering values of tolerance and promoting a moderate religious discourse, thereby strengthening cultural and religious bonds among the three nations.

Minister Abdelatty concluded by expressing Egypt’s gratitude for Mali and Burkina Faso’s supportive positions in international forums. He reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to continuing trilateral coordination and consultation on regional and global issues of mutual interest—particularly those impacting security, development, and stability in the Sahel and West Africa.
