The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) on Monday dispatched nearly 80,000 blankets, more than 42,600 winter clothing items, and over 4,600 tents to Gaza as part of the 94th “Zad Al-Izza… From Egypt to Gaza” convoy, stepping up winter relief amid severe cold gripping the besieged enclave.
An ERC statement said the convoy also included 1,500 mattresses, and more than 9,800 tons of humanitarian aid, including over 5,900 tons of food parcels and flour, more than 300 tons of drinking water, over 2,400 tons of medical and emergency relief supplies, and around 1,200 tons of petroleum products to support hospitals and essential services.
Egypt has led the largest and most sustained humanitarian relief operation to Gaza since the outbreak of Israel’s war on the Strip in October 2023, working in coordination with the United Nations and international partners despite ongoing restrictions and security challenges.
According to official figures, Egypt has provided roughly 70 percent of all aid delivered to Gaza since the start of the war, channeling assistance through the ERC, the country’s national mechanism for Gaza relief.
The operation has relied on a nationwide logistics network and a volunteer force exceeding 35,000 men and women.
Egyptian authorities say more than 665,000 tons of aid have been delivered through the Rafah and Karm Abu Salem crossings, despite restrictions linked to the ongoing Israeli blockade.
In addition to food and shelter assistance, Egypt has enabled the entry of 214 ambulances, supplied around 91,000 tons of fuel to keep hospitals and vital facilities operating, and coordinated the deployment of four field hospitals inside Gaza.
