Egypt's National Universities Council has approved the establishment of 12 new national universities, set to house 98 faculties, that will be operational starting the next academic year (2025/2026), the Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Adel Abdel-Ghaffar announced on Sunday.
The 12 newly approved national universities include Cairo National University, Kafr El-Sheikh National University, Sohag National University, Damanhour National University, Suez National University, Damietta National University, Ain Shams National University, New Valley National University, Fayoum National University, Tanta National University, Luxor National University, and Sadat City National University.
According to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the new institutions have increased the number of national universities in Egypt to 32 and the total number of all universities nationwide to 128.
During the meeting, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour emphasized the commitment to offering modern academic programs aligned with labor market needs. Ashour highlighted that these universities are crucial for enhancing education quality and scientific research.
In addition, he emphasized the importance of cooperation between public and national universities and the need for modern interdisciplinary programs aligned with international standards. He also highlighted plans for a new administrative structure that includes appointing vice presidents for academics, international partnerships, and innovation.
The newly approved universities will house 98 faculties, covering a broad spectrum of disciplines and specializations.
