Egypt’s Ambassador to Mauritania Ahmed Tayea met with Mauritanian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Yacoub Ould Mouine to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the coming period.
The two sides reviewed the strong scientific and cultural ties between Egypt and Mauritania, as well as progress in implementing agreements and projects signed during joint committee meetings and the Egyptian foreign minister’s visit to Nouakchott on May 27, 2025, read a statement released by the foreign ministry in Cairo. Key among these is the executive program for cooperation in higher education.
Both parties agreed to build on the momentum generated by the second session of the joint committee to deepen collaboration in the cultural and academic fields.
The meeting also addressed the historical role of the Egyptian Cultural Center in Nouakchott and ongoing efforts to revitalize the center and restore its status as a hub for intellectual activity in Mauritania since its establishment in 1964.
The Mauritanian minister praised Egypt’s ongoing efforts in education and culture, highlighting the influential role of the Egyptian Cultural Center and the high standing of Egyptian universities, which continue to attract Mauritanian students.
At the close of the meeting, both sides agreed to maintain coordination and communication in the period ahead to further enhance cooperation in education and culture.
