Egypt elected to chair ALO Board for second consecutive year

For the second consecutive year, Egypt has been unanimously elected to chair the Board of Directors of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO), a specialized agency of the League of Arab States.

Egypt is represented by Minister of Labor Mohammad Gibran, who will serve as Chairman for the 103rd session, which runs through October 2026.

The election took place during the ALO Board meeting held in Cairo, at the invitation of ALO Director-General Fayez Al-Mutairi. The session was attended by representatives of the Organization’s tripartite constituents: Arab governments, employers, and workers.

The Board of Directors also elected Sheikh Rashid bin Amer Al-Maslahi from the Sultanate of Oman to represent the Employers' Group, and Engineer Nasser Al-Jarid, Chairman of the National Committee for Workers' Committees in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to represent the Workers' Group.

Following his re-election as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Egyptian Minister of Labor Mohammad Gibran expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the three Arab labor parties—governments, employers, and workers—for their continued confidence. He pledged to exert every effort to strengthen joint Arab action and address the challenges facing the Arab labor sector. Minister Gibran also emphasized the importance of Arab unity and coordinated engagement in international forums.

Throughout the session, the Board is set to deliberate on several key agenda items, including the official election of the Board's presidency, a report on the conditions of Palestinian workers and the broader population in the occupied Arab territories, as well as discussions on organizational, financial, and administrative matters. The meeting will also review a comprehensive report on the Organization’s recent activities and achievements.
