Egypt, Cyprus emphasize respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Anita Demetriou, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, in the presence of Egyptian Parliament Speaker Hanafi Gebali and the Cypriot Ambassador to Cairo.

According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, President El-Sisi reaffirmed the strong and deep-rooted ties between Egypt and Cyprus. He emphasized Egypt's commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest, particularly in energy, trade, and investment. The President also highlighted the importance of effective political coordination between the two nations and stressed the role of parliamentary cooperation as a cornerstone for strengthening relations and fostering mutual understanding.

Presidential Spokesman Mohammad El-Shennawi stated that the meeting also addressed key regional and international developments, including the ongoing situations in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon.

Both sides underscored the need to uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations while adhering to international law. They also emphasized the importance of resolving crises through diplomatic means.

President El-Sisi reiterated the necessity of continuous consultation and coordination between Egypt and Cyprus, including through the trilateral cooperation mechanism that brings together Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece.

The Cypriot Parliament Speaker praised the advanced level of relations between the two countries, noting that her visit reflects the shared commitment to maintaining parliamentary exchanges. She expressed appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in ensuring security and stability in the region.

This meeting further solidifies Egypt and Cyprus’s strategic partnership, reinforcing their collaboration in economic, political, and security matters.
