Egypt’s Ministry of Labour launched a nationwide campaign “Your Safety Matters” to equip and protect delivery workers, with a focus on vulnerable groups and promoting safer, more dignified working conditions.
The campaign was unveiled by Labour Minister Mohammad Gobran during a press conference at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, according to an official statement.
In its first phase, the initiative targets delivery workers who operate motorcycles, bicycles, or cars—whether they are affiliated with digital platforms or work independently. Particular attention is being given to uninsured or unregistered youth. The campaign follows directives from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to provide both professional and social protections for delivery workers.
As part of the campaign, safety gear—helmets, reflective vests, gloves, masks, and first aid kits—will be distributed free of charge to the most vulnerable workers. A national inspection plan will also be launched to ensure job safety and improve working conditions across the sector.
Minister Gobran emphasized that the program includes a mechanism for sustainable support, developed in collaboration with relevant companies and partner organizations.
The campaign also promotes awareness among delivery workers of traffic laws and road safety, with companies encouraged to organize educational seminars. Partner companies are expected to assist by sharing worker data, providing training, improving conditions, and helping distribute protective gear.
A comprehensive safety guide and code of conduct tailored specifically for delivery workers is currently under development. It will cover safe driving practices, protective equipment standards, training modules, and workers’ rights—aligned with international standards and adapted to Egypt’s local context.
To formally integrate delivery workers into Egypt’s informal Labour system, the ministry plans to register them under the irregular Labour database. This step will enable access to social and health insurance, pensions, and workplace injury protections, with companies contributing to the central fund as mandated by national regulations.
Additionally, the ministry will launch a dedicated hotline and online platform to receive complaints and inquiries from delivery workers, ensuring timely follow-up and field-level response.
Gobran concluded by affirming that “Your Safety Matters “is the first in a series of long-term initiatives aimed at training, employing, and protecting delivery workers while promoting their professional and social stability.
