Egypt, Turkey explore new defence manufacturing partnerships at EDEX 2025

Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah El-Din Mostafa met with Vice President of Turkey’s Defence Industries Agency and head of the delegation representing 81 Turkish defence companies at EDEX 2025, Gökhan Uçar, to discuss prospects for cooperation in various military manufacturing fields.

The meeting was held at the ministry’s pavilion at the “EDEX 2025” International Defence Exhibition, taking place at the Egypt International Exhibition Center from 1 to 4 December under the patronage of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

At the outset, Minister Mostafa welcomed the Turkish official and his accompanying delegation, outlining the role of the Ministry of Military Production as a central pillar of Egypt’s defence manufacturing sector, as well as its contributions to civilian industries and participation in national development projects by leveraging surplus production capacities across its affiliated companies.

He stressed that the ministry is working to enhance its capabilities by increasing local content in its military products, in line with the directives of the political leadership to localize the latest manufacturing technologies.

Minister Mostafa praised the strong and expanded Turkish presence at “EDEX 2025”, reflected in the participation of 81 Turkish companies, a significant rise that mirrors the positive momentum in relations between the two countries based on mutual respect and shared interests.

For his part, Gökhan Uçar commended the Ministry of Military Production’s exhibits at “EDEX 2025”, noting their advancement and diversity.

He expressed Turkey’s keen interest in cooperating with Egypt’s Military Production companies, which he described as among the most important industrial entities in Egypt and the Middle East.

Gökhan Uçar added that “EDEX” has now joined the ranks of major international defence exhibitions, offering a platform for global manufacturers of weapons and defence systems to engage, exchange expertise, and explore opportunities in military production.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed on the importance of exchanging visits by experts and technical delegations to assess each party’s technological and manufacturing capabilities, identify precise areas for cooperation, and establish mechanisms to ensure productive and mutually beneficial collaboration.

Egyptian–Turkish military cooperation has entered a steady phase of renewal following years of political tension, supported by restored diplomatic representation, ministerial visits, and expanding technical dialogue.

Defence relations have re-emerged as a promising area for structured cooperation, driven by mutual strategic interests and the complementary strengths of the two countries’ defence industries.

A significant milestone came with the 2025 joint drone-manufacturing announcement, after the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) and Turkey’s defence-technology company Havelsan signed an agreement to co-produce a vertical-takeoff UAV (VTOL) in Egypt.

The drone, unveiled at EDEX 2025 under the name Hamza-1, marks the first publicly showcased UAV developed through Egyptian-Turkish industrial collaboration.

Alongside the drone, both sides also presented a jointly developed unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), signaling a broader framework of cooperation in unmanned and autonomous systems.
