President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Sunday announced the launch of the Fifth African Union (AU) Awareness Week on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) in Cairo.
This year’s event, held from November 17 to 23, carries the theme “Rebuilding Lives after Conflict through Reparative Justice” and will see its main activities hosted in Cairo.
In his capacity as AU Champion on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, El-Sisi stressed the need to strengthen solidarity and adopt comprehensive approaches that address the root causes of the continent’s challenges, with post-conflict reconstruction and development at the forefront.
The fifth PCRD Week underscores the AU’s dedication to advancing tangible initiatives that enhance the well-being of Africans and empower resilient communities to take an active role in reconstructing their societies.
The theme emphasizes the AU’s focus on recovery processes that are inclusive, people-centered, and grounded in justice, efforts designed to rebuild trust, address the impacts of past conflicts, and lay the foundation for sustainable peace and development.
Since its launch in 2021, the PCRD Awareness Week has evolved into a continental platform for advocacy, and mobilizing political commitment, partnerships, and resources to support the implementation of the updated African Union Policy on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development.
The initiative highlights the interconnectedness of peace, security, governance, human rights, and development, while calling for African solidarity and international cooperation to rebuild societies emerging from conflict.
