Cabinet Media Center: Public universities remain state-owned, no privatization

The Cabinet Media Center has addressed recent rumors regarding the alleged intention to privatize public universities, particularly in light of discussions about reducing student intake in theoretical faculties.

The Center firmly denied any such plans, confirming that no official decisions have been made to privatize public universities. It stressed that these institutions will remain under state ownership, as part of the government's ongoing commitment to enhancing the education system at all levels and providing high-quality educational services to all citizens.

It also highlighted that significant efforts are underway to update university curricula in alignment with the goals of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as the broader Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The number of public universities has increased to 28, now covering all governorates across the country.

The government’s strategy for higher education reform includes a strong emphasis on expanding scientific and technological disciplines that are increasingly in demand in the labor market. This approach aims to ensure a better alignment between educational outcomes and national development needs, ultimately improving the overall performance and quality of higher education institutions.
