The Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population announced that the Lung Health and Smoking Cessation Initiative has provided services to more than 60,041 citizens at its 32 clinics nationwide since its launch in November 2022.
Dr. Wagdy Amin, Director of the Chest Diseases Department, noted that 56% of the cases were smokers, compared to 44% non-smokers. He highlighted the particularly high rate of smoking among patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.
Dr. Amin added that lung health clinics provide comprehensive smoking cessation services for individuals wishing to quit, including counseling, psychological support, and medication for cases requiring medical intervention.
