Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Sunday that Cairo is seeking to broaden cooperation with Japan in advanced technology and artificial intelligence, including AI governance.
He made the remarks during talks with Japan’s newly appointed Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the sidelines of the 2025 G20 Summit in South Africa’s Johannesburg, where he is representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Madbouly praised more than 70 years of close bilateral ties with Japan, which were elevated to a strategic partnership in April 2023, and congratulated Takaichi on becoming Japan’s first female prime minister following her appointment in October.
He highlighted Japan’s contributions to major national projects in Egypt, including the Grand Egyptian Museum, and the countries’ cooperation in education.
Madbouly said Egypt hoped to open new areas of economic collaboration with Tokyo and to expand trilateral cooperation involving JICA, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, and African countries.
Takaichi expressed appreciation for the long-standing relationship between the two countries and said Japan looks forward to advancing cooperation across multiple sectors and building on recent high-level exchanges.
