Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, headed to Rome on an official visit to take part in the International Meeting of Dialogue and Prayer for Peace, scheduled to be held from October 26 to 28.
The meeting, organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio under the title “Daring Peace,” will bring together a distinguished group of world leaders and decision-makers, including His Holiness Pope Leo XIV of the Vatican, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, along with numerous religious figures and intellectuals from around the globe.
The Grand Imam is set to deliver a keynote address during the opening session of the conference, in which he will highlight the importance of achieving peace founded on justice and underscore the moral and humanitarian responsibility of religious leaders to work toward ending conflicts, wars, and disputes.
During his visit, the Grand Imam will also meet with Pope Leo XIV and several prominent religious leaders and thinkers participating in the global summit.
Their discussions will address key contemporary religious and international issues, aiming to amplify the collective voice of religions in calling for an end to the ongoing crises, wars, and conflicts, particularly the aggression against Gaza and the West Bank.
The discussions will also reaffirm the importance of upholding the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement as a vital step toward establishing security and stability in the region and the world.
