First Egyptian-German school opens in Cairo

The first school under the "100 Egyptian-German Schools" initiative has officially opened its doors to students, the German Embassy in Cairo announced.

The opening ceremony was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Education, Mohammad Abdel Latif, German Ambassador Jürgen Scholz, and several senior officials.

To mark the occasion, traditional German "Schultüten" (school cone candy bags) were distributed to kindergarten students after the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event also featured beautiful musical performances by the PASCH Choir, which created a joyful and festive atmosphere, the embassy noted, the embassy said.

“Today is a special day for Egyptian-German relations in the field of education, and it is especially meaningful for the children experiencing their very first day of school here,” said Ambassador Scholz. “This school is the result of the Egyptian Ministry of Education’s determination, combined with a courageous and forward-looking vision.”

“I congratulate everyone involved, especially the parents and children, on the start of this new academic journey. The 100 Egyptian-German Schools are more than just an educational project; they represent a real opportunity for a diverse and hopeful future,” he added.

The new school integrates the Egyptian national curriculum with modern teaching methodologies and places a strong emphasis on German as the first foreign language, starting from KG1.

“Our goal is to provide students with a high-quality, multilingual education that prepares them for higher studies and future careers—both in Egypt and in the German-speaking world.”
