Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has upgraded its consular services in 2025, expanding the authentication office number to 27 offices nationwide, issuing nearly three million authentications, around 125,000 passports, and preparing to launch a pilot electronic authentication platform.
A ministry statement said the efforts are part of a broader plan to modernize consular services and accelerate service delivery for citizens at home and abroad.
In a statement, the ministry said the measures align with directives from the political leadership to raise the quality of consular services, simplify procedures, and ensure rapid responses to humanitarian and emergency cases affecting Egyptians in Egypt and abroad.
The ministry noted that 2025 saw a tangible expansion in authentication services across the country, including the opening of a second authentication office in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, with plans to launch additional offices in several governorates and strategic locations in the coming period.
It added that authentication services via Egypt Post were activated nationwide in July 2025, resulting in the authentication of around 13,000 documents, and that mobile postal units were deployed to receive applications outside official working hours.
The expansion helped eliminate congestion in offices and improve operational efficiency, the ministry said, adding that preparations are underway to launch a pilot of an electronic authentication platform.
The ministry said it placed particular emphasis on strengthening direct communication with Egyptians abroad, establishing hotlines at all diplomatic and consular missions, and establishing a central hotline within the consular sector to handle inquiries and emergency cases.
It also intensified consular awareness campaigns on the risks of irregular migration and on security conditions in conflict areas, while handling several humanitarian cases involving Egyptians overseas.
On passport services, the ministry said the Mechanized Passport Centre issued around 125,000 Egyptian passports and travel documents between January and November 2025.
It also issued nearly 4,000 mechanized birth certificates since the service was launched, noting that work is ongoing to introduce additional mechanized civil status services.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the development of the consular work system, enhancing service efficiency, and advancing digital transformation, in line with the state’s role in protecting citizens’ interests and providing care inside Egypt and abroad.
