Egypt’s NEA facilitates voting for senior citizens, people with disabilities

The Egyptian National Elections Authority (NEA) will provide special facilitation to enable the elderly and people with disabilities to safely vote in the upcoming Senate elections due to convene on August 4 and 5, 2025.

This facilitation includes the following:

- Voters with disabilities have the right to request assistance from a judge inside the polling station to cast their ballot if their disability prevents them from writing or seeing.

- Priority to vote without waiting in line is provided, in coordination with security personnel and the Authority's representatives inside polling stations.

- Allocating polling stations on the ground floor for elderly and disabled voters, whenever possible, to avoid climbing stairs.

- Providing designated seats for the elderly and people with special needs and suitable waiting areas to facilitate waiting before voting.

- Providing special signs and guidance staff to assist them in reaching the polling stations.

The NEA, on July 18, released the final list of candidates for the upcoming Senate elections, approving 428 individual candidates and 100 list-based candidates, along with an equal number of alternatives.

The NEA also announced that approximately 68 million Egyptians are eligible to vote in this year’s Senate elections—an increase of around one million compared to the previous presidential election, during which the voter base surpassed 67 million.

On July 1, 2025, the NEA called on all eligible citizens, both within Egypt and abroad, to participate actively in the electoral process. It reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent, inclusive, and legally sound elections.
