Egypt is ready to expand cooperation with Seychelles in training and capacity building, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said, signaling a push to deepen bilateral ties beyond diplomacy into skills development and economic cooperation.
Abdelatty made the remarks during talks in Cairo with Seychelles’ Foreign Minister Barry Faure, where the two discussed strengthening relations at the bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels.
The Egyptian foreign minister said Cairo is prepared to broaden training programs offered through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, particularly in sectors identified as priorities by the Seychellois side. He described capacity building as a central pillar of cooperation between the two countries.
Abdelatty also called for stronger economic, trade, and investment ties, with a focus on tourism, renewable energy, environmental protection, and maritime security. He urged greater use of opportunities available through the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), of which both countries are members.
Highlighting Egypt’s pharmaceutical industry, Abdelatty said Cairo is seeking cooperation to facilitate the entry of Egyptian medicines into the Seychellois market to support the country’s health sector.
He encouraged increased Egyptian investment in Seychelles’ tourism industry, including resort construction and management, as well as expanded market access for Egyptian hotel supplies and equipment.
On security, Abdelatty stressed the need for closer coordination in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea to address maritime threats, protect navigation routes, secure coastlines, and combat piracy.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional issues and ways to support peace, security, and development across Africa. They agreed to continue coordination both bilaterally and within multilateral frameworks, including the African Union, and to maintain mutual support for candidacies in international organizations.
Faure is visiting Cairo shortly after assuming office, and Abdelatty congratulated him during the meeting, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to maintaining close ties with Seychelles.
