The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has issued a weather alert as south-western winds sweep across much of Egypt, bringing sand and dust to the western areas, along with parts of the Nile Delta, Greater Cairo, northern Upper Egypt, and the Canal cities.
These weather conditions are anticipated to reduce visibility on some roads, leading the EMA to advise citizens to avoid areas near street lighting poles and billboards, wear face masks, and stay indoors if they have sinus or respiratory issues.
Additionally, they are urged to ensure windows and doors are properly sealed and to drive carefully to prevent accidents.
The warning also entails potential disruptions to maritime navigation in Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria, with wind speeds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h and waves expected to reach two to three meters.
EMA has also urged the public to exercise caution due to the expected disturbances in maritime conditions.
Meanwhile, the wind activity is expected to continue on Thursday, particularly in the western desert areas and regions, such as Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria.
Egypt is experiencing a gradual temperature drop since the winter season officially began on 21 December.
These cooler conditions will continue until next Monday, with light-to-moderate rain forecasted for the northwestern coasts and northern Nile Delta on Friday.
The weather will generally be cool during the day in Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, northern coasts, and northern Upper Egypt. Meanwhile, South Sinai and the deep south will experience milder temperatures.
At night, temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with freezing conditions likely in agricultural areas of northern Upper Egypt, central Sinai, and parts of the western desert.
Daytime temperatures in Cairo and Lower Egypt will gradually decrease to 18°C by Monday. Nights will be even cooler, with temperatures between 10°C and 11°C.
