President Abdel Fattah El Sisi declared Egypt’s joining of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, which was announced at the first session of the G20 Summit (U20) on Social Inclusion and Combating Hunger and Poverty.
President Sisi extended sincere gratitude to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the gracious invitation extended to Egypt to participate in this summit. He also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Brazil’s presidency of the G20, particularly for the launch of the “Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.”
“In alignment with this initiative, I declare Egypt’s joining of the Alliance, united in the common goal of addressing these urgent challenges, which represent a manifestation of global inequality,” President Sisi said.
“Egypt reiterates the imperative need for an immediate and urgent end to this inhumane catastrophe to save civilians from the devastating living conditions they have been enduring, and to halt the escalation and expansion of conflict,” President Sisi said.
Addressing the current challenges, primarily the aggravation of conflicts; the widening development, digital, and knowledge gaps; underfunding; the debt crisis in developing countries, as well as the failure to meet official development assistance and climate finance commitment, require the mobilization of political will to reorient global priorities and necessitate a renewed commitment of the Sustainable Development Goals, Sisi added.
Egypt firmly believes that fostering balanced global partnerships with developing countries is indispensable in combating hunger and poverty and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, President Sisi said. Those shall include providing concessional financing for development; transferring and localizing modern technologies and tools such as Artificial Intelligence; and strengthening efforts toward achieving food security, health continued.
“In this context, Egypt reaffirms its commitment to global food security by advocating for the establishment of a global grains and food storage and distribution hub on its territory, designed to safeguard food security and bolster supply chain resilience,” President Sisi said.
“We eagerly anticipate this session’s contribution to developing practical solutions for eradicating hunger and poverty. Together, we share the responsibility of building a brighter future for generations to come,” Sisi said.
