Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli Sunday issued a
decision announcing Sunday, January 7, as an official holiday to mark
Christmas. Employees of the ministries, government bodies, local administration
units, the public sector, the private sector as well as the public enterprises
will be granted the paid holiday.
Coptic Christmas is celebrated by some Orthodox Christians on the 7th of January every year and is different from the worldwide Christmas celebration held on 25th of December. The date is set by the Julian calendar that pre-dates the Gregorian calendar used by other Christians.
