Cairo Governor inspects Historic Cairo restoration work

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber, accompanied by Deputy Cairo Governor Ibrahim Abdel Hadi and Executive Director of the Urban Development Fund Eng. Khaled Sediq, conducted an inspection tour of the ongoing restoration work of Historic Cairo, as the state attaches great importance to regaining its former significance and tourist status.

During his tour, Saber said ongoing restoration is a collaborative effort between the Cairo governorate, the Urban Development Fund, and the Engineering Authority. The restoration project includes the area behind the Hakim Mosque, Um El-Ghulam Street, Al-Husseiny area, Bab Zuwayla, and Darb Al-Labana.

Moreover, Saber inspected development work at Mansoureya Street, Bab Al-Futuh, the Hakim Mosque area, the Metwalli Gate, and Bab Zuwayla.

Saber pointed out that the overall vision of the development project of historic Cairo focuses on preserving and enhancing the social and economic activities within the urban fabric and creating a new historical tourism destination for the capital that restores its former glory and status. He also said that a specialized advisory team with expertise in the area's history is responsible for the renovation and the optimal use of open spaces.

Furthermore, Saber asserted all obstacles are being addressed to expedite the completion of the project and increase its implementation rates, considering it a national project, adding that all activities and workshops that do not fit with the area's nature will be relocated.

The inspection tour also included the development work of the Artisans Project at Manshaet Nasr district, which the government is implementing to accommodate all activities and workshops that do not fit with the significance and tourism value of Historic Cairo.
