Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber attended the participatory session held as part of the second day of the World Urban Forum, titled "Celebrating Wuf12 Public Space Revitalization for Impact Initiative," in the presence of Chairman of the Urban Development Fund Khaled Sediq and several governors from participating countries.
The session addressed the public spaces implemented in the Asmarat Housing Project, their importance for citizens, and their social and economic roles. Additionally, it sheds light on the exchange of experiences among different cities.
During the session, Saber reviewed the Cairo governorate's experience in eradicating informal settlements across Cairo and stressed the state's efforts to develop these areas, relocate residents to alternative housing projects, and reuse the land to create green spaces.
Moreover, Saber said the governorate created public spaces in some neighborhoods across Cairo, such as Al-Gabakhana in Old Cairo and Asmarat City. It aims to provide spaces for residents of those neighborhoods to engage in beneficial activities that create a sustainable effect and contribute to developing cultural, social, and recreational life while considering safety and security standards.
