The
cabinet approved during its weekly meeting a draft decision by Prime Minister
Moustafa Madbouli on amending some provisions of the statute of the law on the
protection of competition and the prevention of monopolistic practices issued
by Prime Minister’s decision no. 1316 of 2005. The draft decision proposed
adding a new chapter titled “economic concentration examination”.
This chapter called for banning economic concentration if it restricts or harms competition, outlining the role of the Egyptian Competition Authority in assessing the impact of economic concentration on free competition in market.
