Local Development min., Cairo gov. review Ataba development proposal

Minister of Local Development Dr. Manal Awad held a meeting with Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber to follow up on the proposal to develop and improve efficiency of Gohari, Yousef Naguib, and Esseily streets in Ataba neighborhood after cleaning up debris from the Moski fire in the presence of several traders and shop owners.  

The meeting was attended by Deputy Ibrahim Abdel Hadi, several officials of the Ministry of Local Development and Cairo governorate, and representatives of The United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat).

The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the efforts to clean up the debris and ashes of the fire that broke out in the two buildings on Al-Gohari Street in the Moski district of Cairo. The meeting also followed up on adhering to the directives given by the minister of local development during her inspection visit on August 11th with the Cairo governor to protect the lives of citizens and the adjacent buildings.

Moreover, the meeting discussed the study and proposal prepared by the consultant of the United Nations Human Settlements Program "Habitat" for developing and improving the efficiency of Gohari, Yousef Naguib, and Esseily streets adjacent to the location of the Moski building fire.

It also reviewed the renovation of the government buildings located in Ataba and Moski to be consistent with the urban and aesthetic features of the area.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the outcomes of the visit made by the governorate and UN Habitat officials and the results of the meetings held with vendors, shop owners, and traders to get their opinions.

The Minister of Local Development, Dr. Manal Awad, asserted the government's commitment to providing a safe environment for visitors of that area, vendors, and shop owners to prevent any recurrence of incidents after the development process.

Awad also pointed out that the proposal and study presented to the traders and vendors in the targeted streets near the Moski buildings will take into account all considerations related to the interests of traders and vendors, ensuring implementation of all safety and security measures, in addition to upgrading the facades of the existing buildings to align with the overall urban aesthetic of the area.

For his part, Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber said the governorate has held numerous meetings and discussions in the past period to explore and study the development proposal with representatives from traders, vendors, and shop owners in the three streets proposed for full development.

Meanwhile, the representatives of the vendors and shop owners expressed their gratitude to the Egyptian government, the Ministry of Local Development, and the Cairo Governorate for their current efforts in studying the development of the area and improving the existing situation to ensure the safety of citizens, shop owners, and vendors, and to prevent the recurrence of fires or incidents in the area.
