Temperature to drop in Egypt, possible rain in many areas this week

Egypt is set to experience a drop in temperatures nationwide starting Tuesday with high chances of moderate to heavy rain in many areas, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) said.

The EMA is warning of rain of varying intensity and a disturbance in navigation in the Mediterranean as waves reach 3-4.5 meters in height.

Areas in the North Coast and northern Lower Egypt are expected to see moderate rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. The EMA also expects a thunderstorm in these areas on Tuesday.

Areas in southern Lower Egypt, the Suez Canal cities, and Central Sinai may also experience light rain on Wednesday, while chances of rain are lower in Greater Cairo.

There is also a chance of light rain in the North Coast and northern Lower Egypt on Thursday.

The drop in temperature nationwide will be accompanied by wind in certain regions throughout the week, which will lower the felt temperature, especially in the early morning hours, the EMA added.

However, warm weather is expected in parts of South Sinai and southern Upper Egypt.

Southern regions of the country will see severely cold nights, while the northern regions, including Greater Cairo, will experience moderately cold night-time temperatures.

As for the day time, moderately cold weather is expected across parts of Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the North Coast, and northern Upper Egypt.

The shift in weather will affect navigation in the Mediterranean Sea during the night hours of Tuesday and all day on Wednesday, with winds of 50-70 km/h.

Sporadic winds are also expected in parts of Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt, the North Coast, and South Sinai Tuesday through Wednesday, with a chance of sandstorms in the country’s southern regions on Tuesday. Additionally, South Sinai will continue to experience wind through Thursday.

Greater Cairo will see highs of 17-19 degrees Celsius and lows of 9-10 degrees Celsius Tuesday through Friday.
