Over
the past nine years, the Egyptian government, led by President Abdel Fattah El
Sisi, accomplished tremendous achievements despite the severe economic and financial
challenges.
The Egyptian cabinet issued a 307-page book titled “Story of A Homeland,” documenting these achievements that aimed to build a modern state through launching a bunch of national megaprojects that provide job opportunities for millions of youths and reducing unemployment rates.
The release of the book coincides with the “Story of a Homeland: Between Vision and Achievement” conference that kicked off, on Saturday, and continues until next October 2 at the Al-Massa Hotel in the New Capital, under the patronage and presence of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as well as a large number of representatives of Egyptian society with its various sectors, experts and specialists in various fields. The conference comes after declaring the timetable of the 2024 presidential election that is due to convene on December 10, 11, and 12 domestically, and ahead of the end of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s tenure on April 1, 2023.
The book reviewed the state’s achievement over this period, depending on five main topics. The first is the human development one, the second topic focuses on economic development, Community development is the third topic, Meanwhile, spatial development is the fourth main topic, The fifth main topic focuses on facilities and networks.
During the nine-year period, the Egyptian state achieved an unprecedented boom in economic development indicators; for instance, Egypt has ranked number one in the African investment destinations in for 2022.
Speaking about these megaprojects, the state optimized and improved the country’s infrastructure and investment, and facilitated the movement of citizens and goods by building a national road network transport, besides working on enhancing the green transportation means.
Over this year, a total of 1,135 projects were implemented and developed to further the hospitals, medical units, and ambulance system, at a cost of 91.5 billion EGP. However, the cost of accomplished and ongoing projects in the medical sector over the nine years reached 246 billion EGP.
As for the national comprehensive strategy to develop the pre-university education, the cost to the government reached $500 million, while a total of 8,41 projects in the pre-university education sector during the nine-year period were achieved at the cost of 80 billion EGP.
The government also increased the financial allocation for the higher education and scientific sector by 112 percent over the same period at a cost of 52.5 billion EGP. Meanwhile, the number of universities increased to 96 in 2023, compared to 50 universities in 2014. To enhance digital education in schools, the government distributed 3.3 million tablets to pre-university students nationwide.
Regarding the cultural sector, the government has been working on several projects at a cost of 8.2 billion EGP. The number of theatres rose to 148 nationwide in 2023, compared to 88 theaters in 2014.
Moreover, Egypt advanced 49 places in women’s empowerment indicators as it ranked number 85 in 2023 after it was in the 134th rank in 2014, in accordance with the World Economic World.
The book also details how the government eliminated the phenomenon of slums and unsafe areas and provided adequate housing for Egyptians. New cities and communities continued to be established. It comes within the state’s plans for urban development and its ongoing efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030.
