In her speech, Fouad emphasized that the purpose of the celebration was to honor IUCN members adhering to the global standards of the Green List, which play a pivotal role in preserving biodiversity and the ecosystems of specific regions. She noted that there are two regions in Egypt that are enlisted in the IUCN Green List: Ras Mohamed Nature Reserve and Wadi Al-Hitan (Whale Valley).
Furthermore, she indicated that Egypt had acceded to the Convention on Biological Diversity before 2018, hosted the Conference of the Parties on Biological Diversity COP14, and contributed to the development of the Global Framework for Biodiversity 2020 in Montreal last year. Egypt is also making significant efforts to confirm the link between biodiversity and climate change.
