Cairo governor Khaled Abdel Aal received Sunday the Colombian Ambassador to Egypt, Ambassador Ana Milena Muñoz de Gaviria. The two discussed ways to bolster cooperation between the two countries and the signing of a twinning agreement between the two capitals, Cairo and Bogota, as well as cooperating to address urban issues such as traffic congestion and pollution.
During the meeting, the governor of Cairo highlighted the important and prominent features that distinguish Cairo as one of the world’s most historical and heritage cities. He also reviewed the efforts of the Egyptian state to eradicate unsafe informal areas, establish integrated alternative cities with services, and provide proper and fully furnished housing for residents.
Moreover, the governor said that the Egyptian state has made great efforts in developing the infrastructure and establishing smart and modern cities across Egypt, the most important of which is establishing the New Administrative Capital as an urban assistant and supporter for Cairo.
The governor added that the administrative capital would contribute to easing traffic congestion and population pressure on Cairo and that the Egyptian state has not only sougth modernization but also developed historic Cairo to preserve and revive its heritage. The state has also implemented a modern road and transportation network as the basis for development and investment.
The governor furthermore said that Cairo is known as a global tourist destination due to its abundance of landmarks and tourist attractions. It is also characterized by commercial activity, industrial advancement, and national projects.
For her part, Ambassador Ana Milena Muñoz de Gaviria hailed the significant progress in Egypt she has witnessed during her nearly 4-year stay, expressing hope for strengthening relations between the two capitals in all fields.
