Sisi meets with South Africa’s Ramaphosa at the Russia-Africa Summit

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with South African president Cyril Ramaphosa on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa summit in Petersburg.

The two leaders discussed ways to boost relations between Egypt and South Africa, focusing on increasing the trade exchange between the two countries.

According to the Egyptian Presidency, El-Sisi said that Egypt looks forward to strengthening the historical relations between the two countries through exploring mutual investment opportunities, achieving common interests, and continuing coordination on issues of mutual interest in the African continent.

For his part, President Ramaphosa affirmed that South Africa is committed to developing cooperation relations with Egypt and intensifying joint efforts.

He added that South Africa continues to consult with Egypt on the issues and challenges facing Africa, highlighting Egypt’s leading role and efforts to enhance development and preserve peace and security on the continent. 

The presidency added that the talks discussed the latest developments at the continental level and the most significant developments in the files of mutual interest at the international level, especially the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

Since Egypt and South Africa are members of the African peace mission to Russia and Ukraine, the two leaders exchanged views on the latest developments in the African mediation initiative in the crisis.
